Public Computers
The Bristol Public Library offer free access to the Internet. All computers are equipped with Microsoft Office software (MS Word, Powerpoint, Publisher, Excel, Access). Internet-access computers are offered on a first-come, first-served basis; reservations are not available.
How many computers are available for use?
There are 18 public internet computers located in the Adult Services Department on the lower level of the library. The Children’s Department has 7 public internet computers available for use by those age 12 and younger. There are also 4 computers in the Young Adult program area which are available the hours that section is open and are for YA use only.
Can I extend my time if I haven’t finished my work?
Time extensions may be granted, at the discretion of the Staff, for certain activities such as bonafide research purposes, exams, applications, etc. Time extensions cannot be granted once the session has ended. If a time extension is needed, please ask before your current session expires. To protect your privacy, all material at the end of a session will be erased.
Do I need a library card to use the public computers?
A valid library card is required for use of the public computers. Visitors may obtain a guest pass from the Reference Desk upon showing ID. Those under the age of 18 must have parental consent to use the internet, either by library card authorization or accompanied by a parent or guardian. Guest passes will not be issued to minors without the presence of a parent or guardian. Library cards and guest passes are not needed to access the wireless network.
Are there time limits for use?
Computer sessions are 120 minutes. Multiple logins are allowed per session. All computers will turn off fifteen minutes prior to closing.
May I access my jump drive (USB), CD, or DVD?
You may use USB drives on the computer. CD or DVD drives are not available on public computers but consult with staff to see if an external drive might be available. Floppy drives are not available.
Is there a charge for printing?
Yes. Black & White prints are 25 cents per page, color prints are 50 cents per page.
May I remove the Internet filter?
No. If you need access to a website that the Internet Filter is blocking, please inform the Reference Department staff or send an e-mail to reference@bristol-library.org listing the exact website you need access to. We cannot guarantee that the requested website will be unblocked, nor will be able to unblock the site immediately. State and Federal law requires the use of Internet Filtering.
