Info for Educators

Tours and Story Times for school groups and private groups:

The Children’s Library offers special programs for school groups, scout groups, after school programs, summer camps, or any group wanting to visit the library. We make every attempt to accommodate you for the dates and times requested. Please contact the Children’s Librarian in order to set up a date and time and decide the type of program that best fits your need. If you leave a message, please state your name, phone number to be reached at, type of program, and suggested dates and time.

Homework alerts:

Please email us information about any class project that you are planning involving reading lists or using resources from the library. We would love to have a heads up in order to make sure that we have our staff educated about the project and materials readily available.

Day Cares/Preschools/Head Starts:

We offer outreach services in which the children’s librarian will come to your center and do a story time program for your class once a month. Please call to set up dates and times. Outreach programs are typically held during the first two weeks of the month with the exception of a special request.

Begin with Books Bookbags:

The library has 100 themed Bookbags available for checkout to daycare, preschool, head start, and school age teachers. The bags include materials that can range from 4-7 books, puppets, flannel board sets, cassettes, and program ideas and activities. These bags check out for 1 week only and are not renewable. Bags check out on a first come first served basis with no reserves. Notebooks containing information about the content of each bag can be found at the Children’s Library Desk.

Parent/Teacher Resource Center:

Due to a generous donation by the Civitan Club, the children’s library offers a collection of materials specially made for parents and teachers. This collection includes books about childbearing, pregnancy, nutrition, discipline, and breastfeeding for parents and idea books and reproducible items for teachers. They are listed in the catalog as items with a call number beginning with J PTRC.
